Another neat little programming language: very small, very simple but still rather complete. Somewhat like javascript in flavor, with functional programming and OO features. Designed to be easily embeddable as an extension language for applications.

MonetDB
MonetDB is a open-source database system for high-performance applications in data mining, OLAP, GIS, XML Query, text and multimedia retrieval. MonetDB often achieves a 10-fold raw speed improvement for SQL and XQuery over competitor RDBMSs. An apparently quite mature and active academic project from CWI (Netherlands).
